Description: The Heat and Health Index (HHI) is the first nationwide tool to combine ZIP code level data on heat-related illness, pre-existing health conditions, sociodemographic factors, and natural and built environment factors to identify communities where people are most likely to feel the harmful effects of extreme heat on their health. By delivering a single ranking for each ZIP code, the HHI helps public health officials, city planners, policymakers, and community members pinpoint areas most likely to experience negative health outcomes from extreme heat across the country.
