Service Description: <div><p>The <b>Environmental Justice Index (EJI)</b> is the first national, place-based tool designed to measure the cumulative impacts of environmental burdens through the lenses of human health and health equity. The EJI ranks communities on 36 indicators and 3 modules, which are then combined to create 1 overall EJI rank.</p><p>The EJI delivers a single rank for each community to identify and map areas most at risk for the health impacts of environmental burdens. Social factors such as poverty, race, and ethnicity, along with pre-existing health conditions may increase these impacts. This tool helps public health officials prioritize action for those communities most in need.</p><p>The EJI presents data for each census tract in the continental United States. Census tracts are the smallest subdivisions of land for which data are consistently available. Each census tract represents a community and is home to an average of 4,000 people.</p><p>The data used in the EJI comes from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation, OpenStreetMap, the U.S. Geospatial Survey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.</p><p>In addition to delivering a single environmental justice rank for each community, the EJI also ranks communities on each of the four modules in the tool (social vulnerability, environmental burden, health vulnerability, and climate burden) and allows more detailed analysis within these modules.</p><p>For any questions, please contact the <a href='mailto:eji_coordinator@cdc.gov' rel='nofollow ugc' target='_blank'>eji_coordinator@cdc.gov</a> or visit <a href='https://eji.cdc.gov/' rel='nofollow ugc' target='_blank'>https://eji.cdc.gov</a>.</p></div>
